#911 Emergency! Nicholas Cage Broke His Ankle!

Another celebrity has taken a fall and has broken their ankle. This time it’s our “National Treasure” Nicholas Cage. The details of the injury have not been disclosed but it appears that he has undergone treatment and is recovering well. The incident happened while filming his new movie #211 (police code for robbery in progress), where Cage and his crew are attempting to stop a bank robbery. Cage did not want to be treated on location in Bulgaria, so he flew to LA for treatment. According to online reports he will be back on set in about two weeks to finish the rest of the movie.

Ankle fractures can be treated conservatively or surgically. If the ankle fracture is minimal, meaning
the bones are minimally displaced then a non-weight bearing cast and crutches would be utilized in order to keep weight off the injured limb. If weight is applied to a fracture then the bones may shift and cause more pain and complications. If the ankle bones are separated greatly then surgical intervention is considered. During the surgery the bones are placed back into place while plates and screws are utilized to hold the bones in their proper positions. Surgical correction of an ankle fracture is typically performed as an outpatient procedure in either a hospital or a surgery center. The patient is placed under general anesthesia in order to prevent movement during the corrective procedure. A cast is applied after the surgery and the patient will follow up with the doctor in one to two weeks.

At Healthy Feet Podiatry we treat all our patient’s with the most conservative methods possible but sometimes surgical intervention is necessary. We consider all the variables such as age, bone quality, risk factors, level of activity, and other health problems before we commit to surgical correction. We do this to ensure that we are choosing the best treatment method for each individual patient.
