Ann Hathaway had quite a day when she was caught in a rip-tide current off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. She was crying for help when a local surfer managed to rescue her from the rip-tide. At some point through out the incident, Ann scraped her foot on the reef barrier and sustained an injury to toe. This is where things get a little unusual… Her husband, Adam Shulman, was given a first aide kit but with limited supplies to clean her toe wound from the scrape on the coral reef. So with a little improve, he cleaned the debris out of the scrape by sucking on her toe and applying a small dressing. Whether it was necessary or not, Ann appeared later on walking with minimal discomfort. Now everyone must be wondering if there was some sound medical reason, Ann’s husband cleaned her wound by sucking on her toe. Some old wive’s tale or field medic’s secret? At this time, no medical literature suggests using your mouth to clean someone’s wound since it is full of bacteria which could cause an infection. Let’s just hope Adam’s been using mouthwash to keep the bacterial burden down in his mouth so Ann can put this incident behind her!
