Foot Pain from Dancing? How to Reduce Pain without Surgery…

I have several dancers in my practice suffering from pain in the ball of their feet that is not resolving with use of dancer’s pads or metarasal pads in their dance shoes.  I’ve started noticing similar injury patterns in my athletic and dance patients most likely due to the increased stress localized to certain areas of the foot.  Both patients require body types pushed to maximum performance and suffer similar injuries such as sesamoiditis, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures and tendinitis to name a few.

So why not treat dancers in a similar manner with advanced conservative methods that we already offer here at Advanced Podiatry for our athletes?  Dancers, like sports athletes, want to get better quickly and safely.  So conservative treatment and avoidance of surgery are key factors in treating dancers!

One of the least invasive but highly effective advanced treatment options in the office is Super Pulse Laser therapy.  Dancers that experience constant pain to the ball of their feet should consider using laser treatments in combination with padding or inserts to alleviate inflammation and reduce pain during performances.  Laser treatments can also enhance tissue healing by promoting increased blood vessel formation in areas that have a history of injury or even injuries that have just occurred.   The best part about laser treatment is that there are very few contraindications for treatment and it is PAINLESS!  This is a great option for younger dancers that want to avoid injections in their feet!

If you are experiencing pain as a dancer in your feet or ankles that hasn’t resolved with padding and taping, call Advanced Podiatry at 813-875-0555 and schedule an appointment with one of our doctors to discuss what advanced conservative treatment options are available to make your next performance pain-free!
