How to treat your child’s flatfoot

Does your child have flat feet or fallen arches?  Does your child complain of pain in his or her feet and ankles after playing outside or during PE?  If so, your child should be evaluated and treated for flat foot deformity!

Although flat feet are normal from birth until approximately 6 or 7 years old, many children do not develop arches after this time period and develop symptoms such as “tired feet,” “painful arches,” and “leg pain.”

If your child is beginning to develop these symptoms, a podiatrist can evaluate your child and see if he or she is a candidate for orthotics.  Orthotics are custom made inserts for your child’s shoes that can provide custom arch support to stabilize the flat foot deformity.  If your child has painful flat feet, then treatment should be considered to prevent worsening of symptoms or secondary changes that can occur later on in life such as arthritis.

Call Advanced Podiatry today for an appointment to have your child examined for fallen arches and lets get your child back on healthy, happy feet!
