Piranhas Attack Bathers Toes in Argentina!

Argentinian foot and ankle specialists are treating wounds to 70 people’s toes and feet in a small village in Argentina after a vicious attack by piranhas in a river called…you guessed it, Piranha River! The attack occurred Wednesday when adults and children were trying to cool off in the 100+ degree heat wave in Argentina.  Local lifeguards stated “people suddenly began complaining of bite marks on their hands and feet” and within seconds people were being attacked by palometas, “a type of piranha, big, voracious and with sharp teeth that can really bite.”

Adults and children both suffered bite wounds to their toes, feet and fingers; however, no fatal wounds were caused.  Local paramedics and doctors provided the wound care needed to stabilize the injuries and decrease the risk of infection. Although, no piranhas are spotted in the Tampa Bay area, our doctors at Advanced Podiatry can treat any of your foot and ankles wounds.  Call Advanced Podiatry at 813-875-0555 for an appointment if you have any wounds no matter the cause!
