FAQ – Child Heel Pain

Why does my child have heel pain?

If your child is experiencing heel pain after walking, playing sports or wearing certain shoes, he or she could have Sever’s disease.  Sever’s disease is inflammation of the back of the heel at the heel’s growth plate, commonly caused by overuse.  It can present as redness, swelling and pain to the back of your child’s heel.  Most patients with Sever’s disease are usually 10-14 years old; however, it can occur in younger or older children.  Rest, ice, and change in shoe gear usually help resolve the symptoms for child heel pain; however, you should always consult with your podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment of Sever’s disease.  If your child hs heel pain, don’t wait.  Call us at Advanced Podiatry for immediate treatment.
