FAQ – Diabetic Neuropathy

Is there a cure for diabetic neuropathy?

Peripheral neuropathy is a common in people with diabetes.  Peripheral neuropathy presents as burning, tingling or numbness to the feet.  Initially it starts in the toes and continues up the foot.  Although there are topical and oral medications to help control symptoms of diabetic neuropathy, no cure has been found yet.  Studies have shown that people with well controlled blood sugar levels have less severity of symptoms for peripheral neuropathy but it could still recur if the person has irregular or high blood sugar levels.  For more information on diabetic neuropathy and treatment options for pain, please contact Advanced Podiatry for an appointment.
