Q: When I wake up in the morning I can barely walk on my heel. Why is that?
A: This is one of the symptoms of plantar fasciitis. The band on the bottom of the foot is called the plantar fascia. The band tightens while you are resting and swelling may occur around the band placing pressure on the nerves. Your first steps after rest cause a stretching of the band that is very painful. With time the band relaxes and warms up and it is easier to walk. Stretching before getting out of bed will decrease your pain and cause less injury to the band on the bottom of the foot.
