Heel Pain Treatment With Cortisone Shot

Dr. Krawetz of Healthy Feet Podiatry in Tampa, Florida, gives a cortisone shot (injection) to a patient to treat heel pain (plantar fasciitis).

I’m Dr. Leo Krawetz of Healthy Feet Podiatry.
Today, I have a patient who has heel pain and plantar fasciitis. That’s inflammation of this ligament on the bottom of the foot right where it attaches to the heel and I’m gonna do a cortisone injection to reduce the inflammation. These are relatively pain-free as far as the injection goes. They do feel the burning from the needle and from the medicine that’s inside of the injection, but otherwise, it’s quick, easy, and they go numb pretty quickly because there’s local anesthetic in the medicine. So, I’m freezing the skin right now. This takes away the initial stick and then I slowly inject the medicine, so it’s not as painful. And you can see, the patient is not moving too much because it’s not that painful of a shot. And now, the patient will be able to walk relatively pain-free. If you come in to the office, we can do this very quickly and painlessly, like you say. We’d love to see you in the office. Thanks.
